DPG Media

Online year reports

Project overview
DPG Media, the largest media company in the Netherlands, approached H5mag with a unique challenge: to transform their traditional annual report into a vibrant, interactive, and colorful online experience (for 2021 an 2022). With a diverse portfolio of media channels, including radio, television, newspapers, magazines, websites, apps, and podcasts, DPG Media aimed to showcase their dynamic and innovative approach to media communication through this digital annual report.

My role was to enhance the digital version with various digital media, and design the report for online users.

My contributions
Working closely with DPG Media's print designers, I led the effort to change the printed report into a digital one using the digital publication platform H5mag. My job was not just to copy what was in the printed report, but to make it more interesting online.

I suggested adding extra content like videos, live radio, and podcasts to make the report more engaging. For instance, allowing readers to listen live to Q music radio. Or they could watch a video about the new online Donald Duck magazine or listen to podcasts related to the content.
The challenge with our 41-page report
Based on the data of other H5Mag projects I have worked on the past years, it was clear that most readers will read an online magazine linearly. So, with our long 41-page report, we had a challenge. We didn't want readers to get bored after reading a couple of pages and miss out on the final ones. To solve this, we added a navigation page with links to different parts of the report. This strategic move empowered readers to choose content based on their interests, resulting in increased page views and longer engagement times.

Our efforts resulted in an astonishing average reading time of 6 minutes and 49 seconds per visitor. Until next year, DPG Media!
